Masters Scholars Presents Life Drawings Exhibit
NEW YORK, January 20, 2006 — The Lewis Thomas Society, one of the five Master Societies in the NYU School of Medicine Masters Scholars Program, will be presenting an exhibit of drawings completed by medical students in the Fall 2005 Life Drawing Seminar. The viewing is scheduled to take place between 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on January 24th in Alumni Hall and will be followed by a reception. Beginning the following day, the exhibit will continue for two weeks in the Ehrman Medical Library. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The Life Drawing seminar at NYU School of Medicine is designed to help students explore the art of seeing and creating images of the human body in a disciplined fashion. Participants have the opportunity to draw using live models as subjects. It is anticipated that this will compliment the students’ anatomy experience by permitting the student to experience and reflect on their human response to the model as well as the attributes of form and function inherent in life drawing. Barbara Kerstetter, the instructor of the class, is an artist who has taught life drawing to medical students for many years.
