NYU School of Medicine AIDS Action Week Events
to Include Face-To-Face AIDS Photo Exhibit
and Documentary Film (starts February 28th)

New York, NY – February 7, 2006 – To kick-off AIDS Action Week 2006 (March 6-10, 2006) at New York University School of Medicine, the Masters Scholars Program and the NYU chapter of Physicians for Human Rights will be presenting Face-to-Face: An Intimate Response to AIDS in Malawi and South Africa from Tuesday, February 28 to Friday, March 17, 2006 in the Farkas Breezeway at NYU School of Medicine at 550 First Avenue. Admission is free and open to the public.

Face-to-Face is a multi-faceted exhibition featuring photographic work by Ken Wong (www.facetofaceaids.org). At the center of the exhibition is the AIDS PhotoMosaic, three giant 12’ x 12’ panels of 48 black-and-white portraits of men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS in Malawi and South Africa. The portraits capture the full range of emotions experienced by those affected by HIV/AIDS and reflect the immense scale of this pandemic that has already claimed tens of millions of lives worldwide and continues to affect over 40 million people currently living with HIV. The exhibition also includes educational panels and multimedia kiosks that present photographs, narratives and videos of individuals living with or affect by AIDS.

The Face-to-Face Exhibit opening evening will also feature a lecture and reception with Ken Wong, Director of Face-to-Face AIDS on Feb. 28, 6:00-7:00pm. The evening will also include a preview of Kicking Up Dust, a new film about AIDS in Malawi to be released this spring by award-winning documentary filmmaker Shawn Hainsworth. The reception will immediately follow the event during which guests will have the opportunity to meet Ken Wong, Shawn Hainsworth and Ellen McCurley, the Executive Director of the Pendulum Project, a Boston-based non-profit that collaborates with Face-to-Face on projects in Malawi. Additionally, a silent auction will be held for limited prints of photography from Face-to-Face AIDS. All proceeds will go to Generation Hope and the Pendulum Project to build a school for AIDS orphans in Malawi.

Previously, Face-to-Face has been on exhibition at Princeton and Harvard Universities, the Michener Art Museum, and the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
