As an institution of world renown, NYU Langone Medical Center has a long-standing
tradition of excellence that was established with the founding
of the University Medical College in 1841. This fine tradition
continues today and is witnessed through the quality of our groundbreaking
research, the superior education provided to a new generation of
physicians in training, and the highest caliber of integrated care
offered to patients.
The
strengths of NYU Langone Medical Center extend far beyond the walls of our
School of Medicine, NYU Hospitals Center, and our affiliates: Bellevue
Hospital Center, Hospital
for Joint Diseases, and Department
of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. They include increasingly
close ties to New York University
itself – a university with such intellectual resources as
the Courant Institute of Mathematics,
the Center for Neural Science,
and the Wagner School of
Public Service.
Located
in the heart of New York City and adjacent to Bellevue Hospital,
NYU Langone Medical Center has access to a more expansive patient base than
any institution of its kind. Thus, current NYU physicians and scientists,
as well as those in training, have greater exposure to the entire
spectrum of disease; increased opportunity to treat patients of
every religious, ethnic, and socioeconomic background; and better
opportunity to conduct the vital medical research that leads to
treatment and cures for the world’s most devastating health
concerns. Clinically, NYU Hospitals Center is among the best in
the New York metropolitan area. Tisch
Hospital recently received “high honors,” with a
three-year accreditation and a final score of 92 percent from the
Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO),
the highest score the review team gave to any hospital all year.
In its annual evaluation of healthcare institutions, U.S. News &
World Report consistently ranks NYU Hospitals in the “top
tier” of hospitals in the nation. In the same evaluation,
NYU’s Rusk Institute
for Rehabilitation Medicine has been named the top rehabilitation
facility in New York, and one of the top ten in the nation, time
and again. In a review of New York’s physicians conducted
by New York Magazine, hundreds of NYU’s physicians repeatedly
are listed as “best doctors” in the region.
