Both the Public Health Service (PHS) and the USDA require that
all research-involving animals receive review by an IACUC. PHS policy
requires that this review be performed at least once every three
years. USDA regulations require that this review be performed on
an annual basis. Both NIH and Non-NIH funding agencies require evidence
of institutional approval of animal studies at the time of award
(on time approval).
Only faculty members of NYU School of Medicine at or above the
level of Assistant Professor can submit a protocol.
IACUC Protocol Forms are available through this web site or through
e-mail request.
Please note, IACUC Protocol Form must be TYPED and completed in
its entirety. Sections of Form that do not apply to your animal
experimentation may be answered NA but must be attached to your
submission.
Completed Protocol Forms can be mailed (MSB 182) or dropped at
the IACUC Office. Questions regarding the protocol form should be
directed to the Coordinator. It is recommended that before completing
the Form, DLAR Veterinarian should be consulted. Consultation with
the DLAR Veterinarian can avoid delays in approval.
The IACUC meets every month. Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday
of every month.
Investigators should submit protocols at least 60 days in advance
of the intended start date, or application deadline date, to allow
ample time for IACUC review.
