Course Director: Ugo A. Ezenkwele, MD, MPH
This course is designed for Physicians, Nurses and Advanced Practice Professionals currently working in the fields of Emergency Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery.
This seminar represents the second academic effort between the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery. The course will take place during one full day and its content will reflect common, current management issues and will utilize a literature-based approach to provide support for rational, clinical decision making. The course was delivered for the first time last year and was widely received with over 140 participants.
The course will be taught by faculty members from both Departments and it will be geared toward practicing physicians, nurses, and physician assistants in community emergency departments. It is anticipated that the course will be highly informative, evidencebased and offer a forum for an enlightening discussion on disparities in the management of common orthopedic injuries.
This activity will familiarize its participants with the latest diagnostic, radiographic and therapeutic tools, as well as former effective modalities, available to the emergency medicine practitioner for the appropriate clinical management of orthopaedic injuries presenting to the emergency department (ED). Also, there is a need to explore differing opinions between emergency physicians and orthopaedic surgeons in the overall management of orthopaedic injuries.
