Dr. Thurston advised a local citizen's group in Suffern, NY regarding the potential environmental and health implications of two power plants proposed to be built near that town.

Dr. Thurston served on a review committee for the New York City Board of Education that evaluated the appropriateness of the environmental monitoring done at the public schools in order to determine whether students should be returned to public schools located near the World Trade Center.

Dr. Thurston testified before the U.S. Senate's Committee on Environment and Public Works (Subcommittee on Clean Air, Wetlands, And Climate Change) hearing on the environmental consequences of the World Trade Center Disaster.

Dr. Lung Chi Chen presented a talk entitled "Environmental Health Impact of the World Trade Center Disaster", at the Asian American Leadership Conference, Healing and Re-building New York, City University of New York.

Dr. Lung Chi Chen gave the presentation "Community exposures to particulate matter air pollution from the WTC disaster" at a Continuing Medical Education program at the Department of Preventive Medicine, SUNY, Stony Brook.

Dr. Catherine Klein mentors a student Joshua Matz from Suffern High School in Suffern, NY. He is a STIR program student.

Our Center lent ozone and nitrogen oxides air monitoring equipment to assist the Queens College Center for the Biology of Natural Systems in outfitting a mobile air monitoring station in order to provide more information to the community in the Bronx about air pollution levels in that inner-city community.
