Transporting Hazardous Waste

During the most recent round of laboratory inspections, our consultants noted a general problem with the transport of hazardous waste to the chemical waste vault.

Liquid waste that is brought to the vault must be in secondary containment in order to prevent a leak or a break from leading to a spill along the way. Currently, much of the waste that is being brought to the vault is on carts with only three sides. Sometimes glass bottles are hand carried. Bottle carriers or carts with four sides must be used.

Environmental Services will work with Department Administrators to see that each department or lab floor has a suitable cart that can be used for transporting waste. Please feel free to contact us if you would like a recommendation for purchasing your own cart.

Please Note: Since we pickup from labs in Bellevue, Old Public Health and Public Health Research Labs, carts are not needed in these areas.
