The
goal of the Harkness Center’s educational activities is to
prevent injuries and illnesses in dancers and to provide the dance
and medical community with the knowledge and skills necessary for
the evaluation and treatment of such problems when they do occur.
Harkness provides lectures and workshops to dancers and educational
opportunities for established and aspiring medical professionals
interested in a career in dance medicine. The Center offers clinical
rotations for orthopaedic residents, senior affiliations for physical
therapy students, internship opportunities for college students
and mentorship opportunities for post-graduate physical therapists
and researcher scientists.
The Harkness Center for Dance Injuries provides innovative, practical and relevant educational lectures and workshops to the dance and medical communities.
The Harkness Center strives to accomplish its two primary educational objectives:
1. Expanding the network of specialized medical care givers
and
2. Promoting wellness and injury prevention for dancers and dance educators by offering lectures and workshops to dance schools, dance companies, dance service organizations, universities and colleges, parent's groups and civic groups.
