Remembrance of Randolph M. Chase, Jr., MD

Message from Chair of the NYU Department of Medicine,
Martin J. Blaser, MD

Dear Colleagues,

I am saddened to inform you that our long-time colleague and friend, Randolph M. Chase, Jr., M.D. died May 16, 2008.

Dr. Chase was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of NYU, receiving his AB in 1950. After serving as a decorated Company Commander in the Korean War, Dr. Chase matriculated at the NYU School of Medicine, graduating in 1958. He was elected to AOA. After Residency and Chief Residency in Medicine at Bellevue, and training at Rockefeller University as a Guest Investigator, Dr. Chase joined our faculty in 1964.

He served for more than 40 years, until the time of his retirement in 2005. Dr. Chase, one of the first African-American physicians to join our faculty, was a pioneer, as well as a beloved clinician and teacher. Most recently, he served as Adjunct Professor of Medicine.

We send our deep condolences to Claudia Dade Chase, M.D., his widow, and to his entire family.

Sincerely,

Martin J. Blaser, M.D.
