Buprenorphine is an opioid agonist approved by the FDA for physicians to use in providing office-based pharmacotherapy for opioid dependent patients.

An NIH-funded multi-site study of the effectiveness of buprenorphine, in combination with counseling, for treatment of addiction to prescription painkillers, is underway at NYU/Bellevue.

Dr. Gourevitch, Director of the Division and PI of the NYU/Bellevue study site, was interviewed by CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta for a segment on the CBS Nightly News with Katie Couric.
