Dr. Joseph Leung graduated from The George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Following the completion of his residency program, Dr. Leung served initially as the Associate Medical Director and later as the Medical Director of St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York’s Correctional Health Program.

Currently, he is the Director of Primary Care and the Chief of the Section of General Internal Medicine at the New York Campus of the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System (VA NYHHS).  Dr Leung has held these positions at VA NYHHS since the inception its Primary Care Program in 1994 and the creation of its General Internal Medicine Section in 1997. Additionally, he is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Leung’s major responsibilities include direct patient care, graduate and undergraduate medical education and administration. His primary research interest is in preventive health care. Dr. Leung has served as a site PI on a study involving persian gulf war veterans and their families and currently, is a site Co-PI of the “VA Aging Cohort Study”.
