Dr. Andrew Rasmussen received his doctorate in Clinical/Community Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004, where he specialized in research design and quantitative methodology. His work in the Division of Medicine involves research and program evaluation at the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture, a torture treatment center located at Bellevue Hospital, as well as teaching and mentoring as NYUSM faculty.

Dr. Rasmussen's research interests include posttraumatic stress in non-Western refugee populations, the intersection of physical and psychological trauma, and program evaluation in conflict settings. As a former New York City public schools teacher and Dean, Dr. Rasmussen also has a particular interest in how immigrant and refugee youths cope with migration and family stressors. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented extensively at professional conferences around the country.
