ACGME Grants Five-Year Approval to Endocrinology/Metabolism Fellowship Program

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) today commended the Endocrinology/Metabolism Fellowship Program and granted its approval for the next five years. The ACGME, a private, non-profit council that evaluates and accredits medical residency programs in the United States, was established in 1981 from a consensus in the academic medical community for an independent accrediting organization.

The review process was conducted by the Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine of the ACGME.  Members of the committee are appointed by the AMA Council on Medical Education and the appropriate medical specialty boards and organizations. The ACGME is responsible for the accreditation of post-MD medical training programs within the United States. Accreditation is accomplished through a peer review process and is based upon established standards and guidelines.

The review consisted of interviews, the examination of records and a site visit.  The Council found the Fellowship Program in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in full compliance with its standards, commending Ann Danoff, Division Director and Program Director, for the Division’s performance.
