Clinical Services and Treatments

The new Hematology/Oncology Units at Tisch and Bellevue have made it possible for our house staff and students to gain exposure to a wide variety of rare and serious hematological disorders and to become involved in the complete care of the patient, from diagnosis to treatment, recovery, and follow-up.

Tisch Hospital

Patients from all over the New York metropolitan area have long been referred to the renowned clinical hematologists at Tisch Hospital.

The recently opened Anticoagulation Management Service at Tisch has enrolled hundreds of patients and handles over 1,500 outpatient visits per year, mainly for elderly patients with this complex and unpredictable disorder. The service provides patients with detailed take-home instructions and attentive follow-up and keeps primary physicians closely apprised of their patients' progress.

Bellevue Hospital

Like Tisch, Bellevue Hospital Center is staffed by members of the division's full-time clinical faculty, who offer the same top-level care to patients at both the private and the public institution.

The Hematology Clinic at Bellevue Hospital Center handles some 2,500 visits per year for patients with hematological malignancies and blood dyscrasias.

The inpatient hematology service also treats patients with congenital and acquired coagulation disorders, hemoglobinopathies, hemolytic anemias, immunodeficiencies, thrombophilia, and platelet disorders, and works closely with the transfusion service to monitor aphereses.

NYU Cancer Institute

In October 2004 the hospital's hematology outpatient offices were moved to the new NYU Cancer Institute, which provides cancer screening, diagnostic, treatment, and support services in one location.
