History

In 2000, with a grant from a private foundation, The Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster Program was initiated with the intention of providing mind-body techniques to help patients cope with the stress and anxiety commonly associated with surgery.

In June of 2003, Jackie Levin, RN, MS was hired as Program Coordinator to manage and provide services to NYUMC patients. From that point on, the MindBody Education & Patient Care Program was establishd to include staff education as well as patient care. For several years, Jackie has been working with nurses and other healthcare professionals from a variety of clinical areas, who, in turn, have incorporated these strategies into the care of their patients.

Jackie Levin resigned from her position to pursue a Doctoral degree in Nursing at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.  In August of 2008, Cai McPhee, RN, MS, was hired to replace Ms. Levin.  She comes with a background in patient care, nursing education and holds a National Board Certification in Advanced Holistic Nursing. Her vision is to continue to promote excellence in patient care by providing education and support for patients and staff with the best quality of care and education, to foster the healing cultures that have been established, and nurture and promote growth in the healing environments extant, as well as those yet to be cultivated.
