Imagery

Imagery is a program of directed thoughts and suggestions either on your own or with an instructor. This can engage the relaxation response, inhibiting the stress reponse.

Imagery is based on the concept that your body and mind are connected. Using all of your senses, your body seems to respond as though what you are imagining is real.

Try this:

1. Imagine yourself in a place that brings a sense of relaxation and calm. This can be a place you’ve been to or someplace you would like to go.

2. Using all of your senses, notice what you see, hear, feel, taste and smell.

3. Allow this place to become very real in your mind’s eye. If your mind wanders off, simply bring it back to your relaxing place. Continue to feel more and more relaxed as your imagery deepens.
