- 22 bed voluntary, acute inpatient unit
- Patient population consists of adult, geriatric and adolescent patients who are primarily admitted for:
- Major depression
- Bipolar disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Schizo-affective disorder
- Oppositional defiant disorder
- Care is focused assisting the patient to reach his or her pre-morbid level of functioning. Most patients return home and resume employment or return to school with referral to a private psychiatrist. Others are discharged to more structured and comprehensive psychiatric services.
- Primary Nursing enhances the quality of patient care by
- Providing the patient with consistency and the benefit of a therapeutic relationship
- Increasing individual RN accountability for assessment, planning, teaching and discharge planning from admission to discharge
- Nursing care includes milieu treatment, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, development and implementation of individualized behavioral plans and adolescent protocols, psycho-education, participation in family meetings, administration of medication regimens, and care of patients receiving electro-convulsive therapy.
- RNs attend daily interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with:
- Psychiatrists
- Nursing Leadership
- Social Workers
- Recreation Therapists
- Clinical Pharmacists
- Pastoral Care Staff
- Nursing Attendants
- 8 week orientation includes classroom training taught by our nursing education department and clinical orientation with a preceptor. Ongoing clinical supervision is available following orientation.
