Our History
The NYU Pain Management Center (NYU PMC) was established in 1979 to
treat individuals who suffer from acute and chronic disabling pain.
The uniqueness and strength of the NYU Pain Management Center lies in
its ability and experience in utilizing the multidisciplinary approach
effectively to benefit the patient, the employer and the insurer.
Why We Are Unique
The NYU Pain Management Center is a unique and comprehensive facility
which provides extensive diagnostic and therapeutic services all in
one location. The clinical corner-stone of the Center is its multidisciplinary
"Pain Team" consisting of pain specialists. This approach
assures clinical excellence, cost effectiveness and most importantly,
compassionate and effective pain treatment. Regularly scheduled "Interdisciplinary
Pain Team" conferences promote the most efficient use of the patient's
treatment sessions and a quicker and more complete recovery.
All of the specially trained health care professionals at NYU PMC are
dedicated to providing each and every patient with the highest quality
pain-focused medical care available to treat their pain condition. The
most recent and advanced diagnostic technologies coupled with the latest
and individualized medical, physiatric, psychological and interventional
therapies can diagnose and treat your patients' conditions successfully.
By providing timely, efficient and thorough care, our goal is to achieve
the most optimal level of functionality for all patients. Patients are
encouraged to be active participants in their own care and patient education
regarding diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation is an essential part
of the program.
In order to promote continued success, we also offer Maintenance Services
through our professionals to monitor long term effects of treatment
and to offer the appropriate therapy as needed.
Patients referred to our program soon after onset of pain have the
benefit of an earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment that allows
them to avoid falling into a "chronic pain syndrome" where
development of other serious problems such as permanent disability,
depression and drug dependency can occur. A timely
treated patient at the NYU PMC returns to a productive life and workforce
sooner saving resources for themselves, the employer, insurance company
and the government.
Access to the NYU Medical Center
Patients of the NYU Pain Management Center have easy access to a broad
range of resources. Active collaboration with NYU Medical Center orthopedists,
neurologists, psychiatrists, physiatrists and social workers greatly
broadens the diagnostic and treatment modalities available.
