Primary Responsibilities
Dr. Aston is Chief of Molecular Biology at the NYC Dept. Health Biothreat Response Laboratory.
The lab has the capacity to test for a full range of biological agents and potential biological weapons of mass destruction. The recently-renovated facility has approximately 20,000 square feet of laboratory space, much of it upgraded to Bio-Safety Level 3 (BSL-3). The lab is funded through the City's capital budget with additional operating support from a federal bioterrorism readiness and response grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Dr. Aston received his D.Phil (PhD) in 1991 from The University of Oxford, UK, in Cellular and Molecular Biology. His doctoral research was on the role of advanced glycosylation endproduct-modified proteins in diabetic complications and aging
