The NYU-Bellevue Clinical Psychology Internship Program, fully accredited by the American Psychological Association, offers a one-year predoctoral internship to advanced doctoral students in APA-accredited psychology programs. The internship is based in the Department of Psychiatry of Bellevue Hospital Center and is affiliated with the New York University School of Medicine. The facilities are located between 27th and 34th Streets on First Avenue in Manhattan.
Psychology interns receive training at Bellevue Hospital Center, the NYU Child Study Center and Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center. There are over 300 inpatient psychiatric beds at Bellevue, and outpatient clinics account for 60,000 patient visits a year. It is our tradition to accept all patients within our catchment area who need medical evaluation and treatment. This tradition, and the diversity of services provided expose the intern to patients from a wide range of demographics with regard to country of origin, primary language, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation. Owing to the diversity of our patient population, we strongly encourage bilingual and multilingual applicants across all tracks of the program.
There are currently three separate tracks offered under the umbrella of the NYU-Bellevue Clinical Psychology Internship Program. While the overall internship class forms one cohesive unit, each track maintains different emphases which are complementary to the interests of the interns in that track. Therefore, interns can expect to share many clinical and didactic experiences with their colleagues in the other tracks, but can also expect other experiences unique to their areas of interest. The tracks are: 1) the Adult Psychology Track, 2) the Child and Adolescent Psychology Track, and 3) the Forensic Psychology Track. Applicants to the internship program may apply to only one of the three tracks, and must indicate their choice in the cover letter that accompanies their application.
