and First Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. NYU Medical Center is comprised of New
York University School of Medicine, The Tisch Hospital of New York University,
The NYU Cancer Institute and the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Opened in 1963, Tisch Hospital is an acute-care general hospital of 726 beds
that admits some 28,000 patients each year. The Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation
Medicine, founded in 1948, is the world's first facility devoted entirely to
rehabilitation medicine. The Rusk Institute is the largest university-affiliated
center for the treatment of adults and children with disabilities, as well
as for research and training in rehabilitation medicine. NYU School of Medicine,
one of the nation's leading centers of advanced biomedical learning, spans
a history of excellence of nearly 160 years in the education and training of
physicians, in patient care, and in scientific research.

NYU Cancer Institute
For over 25 years, NYU Medical Center has offered programs dedicated
to cancer prevention, treatment, research and education. The NCI
designated NYU Cancer Institute officially established in January
2002, builds on this history by strengthening the links between
the considerable basic science and clinical strengths of the Medical
Center with the goal of enhancing the understanding of this disease
and improving the care of patients with cancer. The Department of
Radiation Oncology plays an integral role in the Cancer Institute.
