"Nancy Chambers has been a leader in
a gardening movement that is seldom recognized. This is the movement
to create gardens and gardening opportunities to those who are physically
challenged and need an environment that is both accessible and professional. Her
work at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation has resulted in innovative
programs that include horticulture as part of the rehabilitative process.
In
the gardening community, she is the resource and barometer of standards
from which accessible gardens are created. Nancy is the kind of professional
that brings healing and greening together as a vehicle to recovery and
a way of including all gardeners as part of the greening process.
Nancy, the
Parks Council is pleased to present this Community Services Award to you
as a leader and an inspiration to all New Yorkers who work together to
make New York green. We thank you for all your good work."
