Senior Rusk Faculty Member Elected to Leadership Role in ACS

Herb Zaretsky, Ph.D., currently Administrator and Clinical Professor, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Rusk Institute, NYU Medical Center, has been elected to the position of President-Elect of the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Eastern Division (New York and New Jersey), effective September 2006, for a two-year term.  In September, 2008, Dr. Zaretsky will become the President of the ACS’ Eastern Division. 

The Eastern Division of ACS is one of the largest of the 13 regional divisions of the American Cancer Society, and encompasses New York State and New Jersey.  The Eastern Division provides cancer control funds for programs in prevention, detection, treatment, patient services, research and education, utilizing an annual public support and revenue budget of over $96 million and covering a population of over 27.5 million persons.

Dr. Zaretsky is also a member of the National Assembly of the ACS, and a recipient of the St. George Medal, a national award from the ACS in recognition of outstanding contributions to the control of cancer.
