Herb Zaretsky, Ph.D., Elected to Newly Formed CARF Board of Directors

Herb Zaretsky, Ph.D., Administrator and Clinical Professor, Rehabilitation Medicine, Rusk Institute, was recently elected to serve a two-year term on the newly streamlined Board of Directors of the national Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), effective January 1, 2006. In the past months, the previous 54-member CARF Board of Trustees approved a restructuring of its governance into a more streamlined 11-member Board of Directors. Dr. Zaretsky had previously served as a member of the previous Board of Trustees, and was the Board Chair in 2003. The redesign to this new Board of Directors will be more efficient in focusing on CARF’s governance, and to be positioned to respond more expeditiously to new and emerging opportunities, while remaining focused on CARF’s primary mission, accreditation. The Board is also developing a new International Advisory Council (IAC), which will provide input for developing and adopting new and revised accreditation standards. Through the International Advisory Council, CARF will increase the opportunities for participation on standards review for a broad group of consumers, stakeholders and interested parties. It is anticipated that all of the current sponsoring organizations of CARF will become members of the new IAC.
