Rusk Rehabilitation Medicine Announces New Appointment

Mathew Lee, M.D., Chairman and Professor, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, NYU School of Medicine, is pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Moroz, M.D., to be the Department’s new Director of Residency Training and Medical Education. Dr. Moroz’s appointment is effective July 1, 2006.
Howard Thistle, M.D., Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine has been the Director of the Department’s Residency Program since 1988 and has strongly endorsed the appointment of Dr. Moroz, who had previously served as Associate Director of the Residency Program since 2001. Dr. Thistle will continue to serve as Vice chair and Clinical Director, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Rusk Institute, as well as to assist Dr. Moroz in the transition to this new responsibility.
Dr. Alex Moroz is a full time Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and is an experienced educator in the field of disability and rehabilitation. While in training, he developed a curriculum in Medical Aspects of Disability for non-physician healthcare providers and taught a graduate level 3-credit course with the same name to a population of vocational counseling students at the City University of New York during 1999 and 2000. He has served as an Associate Residency Program Director in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine for the last five years and in that role has expanded and improved the post-graduate training program for physicians specializing in Rehabilitation and Disability which became the largest such program in the country. He has served on the medical education committees in the Department and the School of Medicine. Dr. Moroz received a recognition award for his teaching excellence from the graduating residents in 2001 and was invited by the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to develop a national self-study curriculum for practicing rehabilitation physicians in the area of Neurodegenerative Disorders and Stroke from 2002 to 2003. Dr. Moroz has been directing Prosthetic and Orthotic and co-directing Continuing Medical Education in Rehabilitation Medicine at the New York University for the past five years. He has worked with the Disability Curriculum Group at the School of Medicine to develop and implement a disability curriculum for first-year medical students.
