Therapeutic Recreation Department Hosts a NY Rangers Visit to Rusk Pediatrics
On Monday January 8th, 2007, the patients on the Rusk pediatric unit and their families were treated to the pizza party of a life time! Thanks to the Garden of Dreams Foundation and the NY Rangers, 5 South became a pizza eating, hockey playing hot spot.
The evening started with pizza as far as the eye could see and just when everyone was starting on their 2nd or 3rd piece, who walked in to serve it to them, but Matt Cullen, Thomas Pock, Petr Prucha, and Marcel Hossa; four members of this years NY Rangers team.
When everyone had all the pizza they could stand, it was all about the hockey. The players were supposed to give a demonstration of their puck handling skills, but challenges from the kids soon turned it into every child’s dream … to play against a real professional athlete. The patients had plenty of time to talk to the players and ask questions (as well as get a few autographs). If you asked the kids, they probably felt they were the only kids on the planet that night and that’s the way it should be.
