Rhizotomy Program

The Rhizotomy Program, under the direction of the Divisions of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Pediatric Rehabilitation, utilizes a multidisciplinary approach for the treatment of spasticity in children with cerebral palsy. Following the surgical procedure, which reduces lower extremity spasticity, children are admitted to the Institute for an intensive program to improve function and ambulation skills. Since its inception in 1986, over 370 patients have experienced significant and long-lasting improvement through NYU's program.

The relationship between Rusk Institute and other clinical and research units within NYU Medical Center contributes to an environment that provides the optimal rehabilitation for patients.
