Speech-Language Pathology Research Activity

In addition to providing clinical services and graduate training, the Speech-Language Pathology Department has been conducting research in the neurogenic communication disorders continuously since 1964. The Program Director has been the Principal Investigator on research funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIDCD,NIDRR) and private foundations (Milton & Miriam Handler Foundation, Jacob & Valeria Langeloth Foundation, Ong Foundation).

Investigations have focused on recovery and rehabilitation in aphasia secondary to stroke and head trauma. Results have been published in a wide range of peer-reviewed journals, including Aphasiology, Stroke, Journal of Communication Disorders, Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, Journal of Nervous and Mental Diseases, Scandinavian Journal of Medicine, and the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
