The Vision Rehabilitation Program at The Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine provides comprehensive visual-perceptual rehabilitation for both outpatients and inpatients at Rusk and at NYU Tisch Hospital. The program is staffed by specially trained occupational therapists using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment. Occupational therapists use their unique background of activity-based rehabilitation to provide interventions to assist the visually impaired in acquiring and maintaining the highest level of function and independence in activities of daily living. The program consists of Low Vision Rehabilitative Services and Vision Therapy Services. The occupational therapists work closely with the Departments of Physiatry and Ophthalmology at Rusk/NYU along with behavioral optometrists to provide a collaborative medical model for vision rehabilitation.
Recently, the Occupational Therapy Department at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine under the direction of Dr. Mo Fouladvand, NYU Neuro-opthalmologist has joined leading medical, rehabilitation and eye centers across the U.S in administering Novavision VRT Vision Restoration Therapy (see news release for more information). VRT is a non-invasive therapy option performed on FDA-cleared medical device that can help restore vision lost as a result of stroke or traumatic brain injury. Vision may be restored no matter how long ago vision loss occurred.
