Reminder: Clinical trial registration requirement
for publication in major medical journals.
The International Committee of Medical Journal
Editors announced
in 2004 that physicians conducting clinical trials who wish to publish
the results in many major medical journals (including JAMA, NEJM
and the Lancet) must register the trial, before enrollment begins,
in a publicly available database. Registration is required for new
studies beginning after July 1, 2005 and for existing studies as
of September 2005.
The National Library of Medicine registry,
at www.clinicaltrials.gov, has been named as an acceptable registry.
Faculty participating in multi-center trials may wish to confirm
with their collaborators that the trial has been registered. Faculty
holding an IND or IDE, or otherwise conducting a clinical trial
at NYU, should plan to register the trial to preserve their ability
to publish the results of the study. |
