Opt-Out HIV Testing in Emergency Department Settings

Two-year cooperative agreement to support voluntary opt-out testing in the Emergency Department (ED) setting that includes streamlined provision of HIV-testing information prior to specimen collection, supplemented with written information for patients on HIV testing and services.

Public Consultation to Inform the Design of Possible Large-Scale Studies of Genes and Environment in Common Disease (U01)

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to provide support for a specialized center to conduct a pilot public consultation study to obtain wide societal input to inform the design of a possible large U.S.-based longitudinal cohort study of the role of genes and environment in health and disease.

Lance Armstrong Foundation

The Lance Armstrong Foundation is accepting applications for research grants in two areas:

1. Issues of cancer survivorship
2. The basic and clinical science of testicular cancer

  • For each topic area, two types of grants are available:
    Young investigator research grants will be awarded in the amount of up to $50,000 per year for a maximum of two (2) years to support research by investigators in the early stages of careers
  • Research grants will be awarded in the amount of up to $75,000 per year for a maximum of three (3) years to support research projects initiated by established investigators
  • Letters of Intent: March 1 to April 24, 2006
  • Application Deadline: April 24, 2006

New York Academy of Medicine

THE GLORNEY-RAISBECK MEDICAL STUDENT GRANTS IN CARDIOVASCULAR RESEARCH
Up to four $3,000 grants to support the laboratory or department in which the student will work, will be awarded to MD candidates attending medical schools conducting research in the greater New York area. MD/PhD students are not eligible. The grants typically support 8-12 week cardiovascular research projects initiated during the summer between the first and second years of medical school.

THE DAVID E. ROGERS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

American Association for Cancer Research

Littlefield-AACR Grants for Metastatic Colon Cancer Research
Projects designed to accelerate the discovery and development of new agents to treat metastatic colon cancer and/or for pre-clinical research with direct therapeutic intent.

• Applicants may apply for total support of $100,000 to $250,000, over duration of grant

Arthritis Foundation

Summer Student Fellowship
Award of $2,000 for the support of full-time research, with a minimum commitment of eight weeks, in the broad areas of rheumatic diseases and musculoskeletal conditions. It is intended for graduate level students in the fields of medicine, biomedicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, social work, psychology, and public health. Paper submission only. Application due April 14, 2006.
