FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

American Cancer Society

  • Pathogenesis and Treatment of Lymphedema Secondary to the Management of Breast Cancer

    • Maximum of $150,000 plus indirect costs per year for three (3) years
    • Focus is on incidence, etiology and new treatments for secondary lymphedema in human subjects
    • Appropriate areas of investigations include:
      • Comparative studies of breast cancer treatment interventions
      • Innovative and practical methods of detecting and measuring lymphedema
      • Development of cost/economic analysis on the burden and treatment of lymphedema
      • Incidence of infectious complications
      • Rigorous comparative evaluations of therapeutic interventions
    • Independent investigators at all stages of their career are eligible to apply
  • Deadline for letter of intent: August 15, 2005
  • Deadline for full application: October 15, 2005

Canary Fund and the American Cancer Society

  • Postdoctoral Program in the Early Detection of Cancer

    • Awards will for three (3) years with progressive stipends of $40,000, $42,000, and $44,000 per year, plus $4,000 per year for institutional allowance
    • Postdoctoral fellowship with a focus on studies in the tools and technologies for developing strategies for the early detection of cancer
    • Research should be directed at new approaches to improve clinical methods for the screening of primary tumors and or/metasases including, but not limited to:
      • Minimally invasive strategies for early detection
      • Biomarker identification or discovery
      • Imaging, including novel molecular imaging strategies
    • Most of the projects are expected to have a direct impact on the early detection of cancer
